Lost Cities

I worked with activist storytellers Caravan Lab and the late coral researcher Ruth Gates to build Lost Cities—an interactive documentary on corals, their significance to our planet, and the threats to their survival.

Beginning in 2017, I immersed myself in the content provided by Caravan Lab and Gates. I worked closely with the Belle & Wissell design team to plot stories throughout the experience, encouraging exploration while building a coherent narrative for young viewers. We conceptualized ways to tell the full story and provide further context—using captioned video segments and clickable story hotspots. As final content was written, I edited all text for accuracy and legibility, and compiled title options for the experience.

This project took on even greater gravity with Ruth’s death in October 2018. Even having known Ruth for such a brief time, her passion for and commitment to corals was profound, infectious, and inspiring. I hope Lost Cities can help carry on her mission—educating the public and bringing awareness to these struggling, but still recoverable “cathedrals of the sea.”

I completed this project as part of my employment at Belle & Wissell, Co.
