Too Far Gone
Working closely with the author for over a year, I reshaped the style and story arc of Too Far Gone—Todd Blubaugh’s motorbike memoir. We drew inspiration from Robert Pirsig’s Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, Jon Krakauer’s documentary style, and Jack Kerouac’s classic Americana road-trip, On the Road.
“Todd, I just went through the book. I’m broken, humbled, inspired, and in awe. Your words alone are enough to stand on their own. They brought me to tears, made me want to hug my kids, kiss my wife, and not take a second for granted.”
Too Far Gone features Blubaugh’s motorcycle photography interspersed with short written vignettes and road-trip ephemera—newspaper clippings, hand-written letters, and more.
Though my primary role was editor, I also managed the book proposal process, collaborated closely with the design team and publisher, and communicated with the overseas printer on the memoir’s unique style and needs.
I completed this project as part of my employment at Belle & Wissell, Co.
For the book launch party, we hung the book’s uncut sample pages around the Oxbow gallery in Georgetown, Seattle.
