Understory at the Spheres
Amazon
An immersive visitor experience located beneath Amazon’s iconic Spheres, Understory invites the public to explore the science, design, and imagination behind one of Seattle’s most recognizable landmarks. The exhibit transformed the space beneath a living rainforest into a dynamic storytelling environment—where media, light, and sound converge to reveal how innovation and nature intertwine.
While at Belle & Wissell, Co., I served as writer and content developer for the experience’s interpretive and interactive elements. Collaborating with a multidisciplinary team—including Studio Matthews, Jill Randerson Exhibit Management, and the Amazon Horticulture team—I crafted interpretive copy and digital content that helps visitors understand the architecture, engineering, and biodiversity that make The Spheres unique.
I oversaw on-site film shoots and wrote interpretive text for the central media installation, a sweeping curved LED display that immerses visitors in cinematic footage of the plant collection above, accompanied by an original generative soundscape.
Across five modular exhibit stations, I developed content for tactile and digital interactives that invite hands-on learning about Amazon’s sustainability efforts, horticultural research, and workplace design philosophy. The result is a layered storytelling experience that connects visitors to the wonder of The Spheres and to Amazon’s broader vision of biophilic innovation.
